It is everything it says but if you have it oscolating in front of you it is like a spotlight! The Halogen reflects off of the parabolic dome and blinds you everytime it faces you. If you like it dark when you watch TV at night this is a very bright night light. If you're just going to put it in the corner and not have it face you it's a great heater. We returned it in spite of all of its other great features.
if you want parablolic try the coil based heaters like Holmes or the Windchaser models. They are not as efficient but they aren't so bright either.

I really like this and my cats absolutely love it. I end up with a string of cats littering the floor in the direction that this is pointing. If you're pointing the (very bright) thing at yourself, you get nice and toasty (5 stars for toasty and energy efficiency), however this unit did not do a great job of heating the whole room unless I left it on for a very long time (3 stars for heating a whole room). Last of all, I'm buying a second one because my first one kicked itself off and won't go on again. It's about two years old which isn't so bad but I do like things that last (3 stars for staying power).
Great lamp and the price is cost effective, too
I've had the lamp for three years and find that it's my best portable heater. In the beginning, I found the bright light annoying, but have learned to overcome this by placing the heater behind me or to the side. The features I like about it are that it begins heating instantly and intensely. It's great for heating up just where I'm watching tv in my cold sunroom in the winter and uses a lot less electic than the room heat pump. While I'm lying on floor cushions, I have the heater to the right of the tv, aimed especially down and at my feet. The light is no brighter than the regular floor lamp that I have next to it. I think the cheerful light also helps me dealing with seasonal affective disorder (winter blues). I'm hoping I get a few more years use out of this marvel.
